Aging in Corrections for the Correctional Nurse
2.5 Continuing Education Hours
Correctional nurses are increasingly caring for individuals who are aging behind the wall—often with complex medical, functional, and psychosocial needs. This course explores the normal physiologic changes of aging, the phenomenon of accelerated aging in incarcerated populations, and the nursing interventions that promote safety, dignity, and independence. Participants will learn to identify and manage common chronic conditions, recognize early signs of decline, and provide compassionate end-of-life care in a security-driven environment. Grounded in the ANA Code of Ethics (2025) and current national correctional standards, this class prepares nurses to deliver humane, evidence-based care for the older adult in custody.
