Aging in Corrections for the Correctional Nurse

arthritic hands

Correctional nurses today are increasingly caring for individuals who are aging behind the wall—often with complex chronic conditions, mobility limitations, and psychosocial challenges. This course explores the physiologic changes of normal aging, the concept of accelerated aging in corrections, and the nursing implications for assessment, intervention, and advocacy.

Participants will learn how to identify and manage common chronic and cognitive conditions, promote functional independence, and address ethical issues related to end-of-life care. Through correctional-specific scenarios and practical strategies, nurses will gain the knowledge and confidence to provide compassionate, competent, and dignified care to aging individuals in custody.
